Employer Maintenance Unit

Employer Maintenance Unit (04/03/2017)

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) maintains an Employer Maintenance Unit (EMU) that contacts employers to gather pertinent company data related to child support purposes. Maintaining the correct information helps reduce the volume and time spent on misdirected and duplicate mail sent to employers. The data collected includes information such as the following:

The EMU may contact employers via an Employer Contact Information Verification (ECIV) form (a.k.a. “survey”), e-mail, or by telephone. Employers may complete the ECIV via the employer website by clicking the link “If You Received a Survey, Click Here” located on the employer home screen. In addition, employers may complete and return the ECIV via U.S. Mail, Fax, or by contacting the EMU at (800) 591-7614, to provide the information.

The EMU will also provide tracking and follow-up of Income Withholding Orders (IWO) issued to employers for withholding and remittance of child support. Employers are referred to the EMU for follow-up if there has been no response to an IWO by remitting withheld payments to the Texas State Disbursement Unit (SDU), or indicating the obligated party is no longer employed or was never employed.

Employers may notice a reduction in contacts regarding IWOs when following these simple best practices, within timeframes required by law:
